Who it's for
High school, middle school, club and rec volleyball coaches running a 5-1, 6-2 or 4-2.
What's inside
- Rotation planner: match, date and sets, your system (5-1, 6-2, 4-2 or other), libero subs, and the starting lineup in serving order with player, jersey number and position
- Six rotation courts marked with zones 1 to 6, the setter's zone, who the libero is in for, and notes
- Serve-receive formations: six courts to draw where each player stands to receive serve and the setter's path to target, with passers and notes for each rotation
- Practice plan: ten timed segments: dynamic warm-up, ball control and passing, serving, serve receive, setting, hitting, blocking, defense, scrimmage or 6 v 6, and cool-down and recap
How to use it
- Write your starting six in serving order. Player 1 serves first from zone 1.
- Fill all six rotation courts so you can see where your setter, hitters and libero start in each one.
- Draw a serve-receive formation for each rotation, then rehearse them in the serve-receive block of your practice plan.
How volleyball rotations work
The court has six zones. Zone 1 is right back, where the server stands, zone 2 is right front, zone 3 middle front, zone 4 left front, zone 5 left back and zone 6 middle back.
Your serving order is your rotation order. When your team wins a rally on the other team's serve, everyone moves one spot clockwise and the player moving into zone 1 serves next. A team cycles through six rotations, which is why the sheet has a court for each one.
In a 5-1, one setter sets in all six rotations. In a 6-2, two setters each set from the back row, so three hitters are always in the front row. A 4-2 uses two setters who set from the front row. Tick your system at the top of the sheet and mark the setter's zone in every rotation.
Questions
Does it work for a 5-1 and a 6-2?
Yes. Tick your system at the top and write the setter's zone on each rotation court.
Can I use it for club volleyball?
Yes. It isn't dated, and the system, positions and libero are all write-ins.
