What goes in a medical binder

A medical binder keeps what doctors ask for in one place: who you are, what you have, what you take, who treats you and what has happened so far. It helps most when you see several providers who don't share records, or when you manage care for someone else.

Most binders have the same sections: a medical profile, medications, allergies, a provider directory, medical history, test results, appointment notes and insurance. These four pages cover the essentials, and the rest can grow as you go.

Keep it where you can grab it on the way to an appointment or the ER, and update it whenever something changes. It holds personal details, so store it somewhere safe and never write passwords in it.
